Observations from space, usually from satellites or high-altitude aircraft, enable monitoring vast geographical areas and provide unique information that is difficult to access and sample using traditional methods. VAIS EO-Analyst is a specialized cloud-based platform for management and intelligent processing of satellite Earth Observation (EO) data. At its core, EO-Analyst incorporates a sophisticated AI and deep learning engine that enables detection of targets/events of interest, automated large-scale monitoring, and validation of existing observations. It utilizes self-supervised and adversarial models to provide actionable insights into the huge amounts of EO data and the practical means for their best utilization.

Multiple Satellites and Scalable Architecture

Modern satellites, especially micro-satellite, are producing huge amounts of data that is difficult to manage and process using conventional methods. VAIS EO-Analyst is designed to process data drawn from a wide range of satellites, including the Sentinel series, Landsat, SPOT, and RapidEye, among others. Our analytics enable exploitation of multispectral data (visible, near infrared, short wave infrared), hyperspectral data, and C-Band SAR data as well as any additional auxiliary measurements. This is only made possible by using VAIS powerful deep learning-based data assimilation technology for combining multi-modal information from different data sources resulting in significantly improved estimation results. Furthermore, VAIS EO-Analyst utilizes an innovative cloud architecture and big data technologies to enable management and processing of huge amounts of EO data while enabling deep data analytics.


Coastal Erosion Risk Prediction

Coastal erosion is the loss of coastal lands due to rising sea level and removal of sediments or bedrock from the shoreline. Coastal erosion is expected to increase over the coming years due to climate change and human activities. VAIS EO-Analyst enables advanced spatio-temporal analysis of petabyte-scale satellite shoreline data. It provides quantitative measures of coastal changes and predicts the short- and long-term impacts of coastal erosion. Such information is essential to enable proper actions to manage coastal erosion risks and reduce their impact on communities and local economies.

Surveillance of Illegal Maritime Activities

Recent years have witnessed a sharp increase in illicit maritime activities such as smuggling and fishing in unauthorized areas with vessels not equipped with or switching off Automatic Identification Systems (AIS). VAIS EO-Analyst provides accessible cost-effective solution for automatic near real-time (NRT) monitoring of maritime activities using EO data acquired from ESA's Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 sensors. Our advanced analytics enable combined utilization of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical sensing data to facilitate day-and-night, all-weather operations to detect rogue vessels and provide information on their physical characteristics and trajectory.
